As you might have noticed, we scrapped any preexisting plans for The Reveal this week in order to pay tribute to David Lynch. We’re concluding the week with a new audio commentary track we recorded to accompany Blue Velvet. It’s a film both of us have seen many times over the years (and discussed as part of our Sight and Sound 100 series), and yet we both found new details we’d never noticed before. And, for as much as has been written about this film, we both found much to discuss. To what degree is this a film about the 1980s? Did you know that Isabella Rossellini’s wig was inspired by country and western stars? Whose picture is hanging on Sandy’s wall? How does ear maintenance evolve with age? We hope you’ll watch along with us and continue the discussion below. This is the second installment of an ongoing series for paid subscribers only. Look for another soon, though hopefully under happier circumstances. To sync the track, wait a moment and listen for one of us to describe when the DEG logo appears on screen. (We’ve provided a preview for subscribers at our free level. To unlock the entire audio commentary upgrade to a paid subscription.)
